hiberfil.sys error 42125 HELP!

Earlier today I tried highlighting text (ctrl+a) but the selection disappears as soon as I lift my fingers off the keys. Then the cursor runs backwards. It seems to happen everytime I hit the left ctrl key actually, which makes the cursor go back to the start of the line ala unix command, except I’m usually on Firefox. And it’s not happening in command prompt.

I quick-scanned with malwarebytes but nothing came up so I decided to do an boot time scan w avast and this showed up

File C:\hiberfil.sys\content\branding\about.png Error 42125 {ZIP archive is corrupted.}

Help please?! I’m freaking out now! This is the first time it’s happening! I’m on Windows Vista SP2, firefox browser.

I suggest:

  1. Clean your temporary files.
  2. Schedule a boot time scanning with avast with archive scanning turned on. If avast does not detect it, you can try DrWeb CureIT! instead.
  3. Use MBAM (or SUPERantispyware or even Spyware Terminator) to scan for spywares and trojans. If any infection is detected, it is better and safer to send the infected file(s) to quarantine (Chest), rather than simply deleting them.
  4. Test your machine with anti-rootkit applications. I suggest avast! antirootkit or Trend Micro RootkitBuster.
  5. Make a HijackThis log to post here or this analysis site. Or even submit the RunScanner log to to on-line analysis.
  6. Clean your Hosts file (replacing it) with HostsMan tool.
  7. Disable System Restore and then reenable it again.
  8. Immunize your system with SpywareBlaster.
  9. Check if you have insecure applications with Secunia Software Inspector.

disable hybernation and reboot.
Then do as tech suggested.

I disabled hibernation, rebooted, did a MBAM quick scan (no malicious items detected). I did an avast! antirootkit scan but it always stops responding when it gets to some registry item HKEY… go.microsoft.com or something. Does that mean there’s a virus there? Else, it doesn’t find any rootkits. Haven’t had the time to do a boottime avast! scan yet since that usually take around 2 hours. My HJT log file’s in the next post

The homefus2.dll file appears to be related to FingerPrint sensor software, does that ring any bells ?

Thanks for the input, David.

No problem, it is just following up a bit more on your post though.
