Today I got a notification software needed updating - I ran the software updater scan to see which program it was. It was reporting Firefox I Expanding the program in the updater, reporting 43.0.4 as the New version and current version as 43.0.4.
I had been waiting for FF44.0 update to kick in but no, then this incorrect out-of-date software updater notice. A manual check from within FF43.0.3 reports FF 44.0 available.
While the avast update feature is cool to use (when it works right) it can be problematic when update links do not point to the correct file.
So what I do is use this url when notified by avast software updater to download the full file here: (Also able to confirm there is actually a newer version available for FF at the same time and what version it is) https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all/
I’m sure the glitched avast link will be fixed shortly.
I believe I can recall this happening in another topic, also on firefox reporting an update was required, yet the current and new versions reported on screen were the same (as in my 1st image).
I also use the “Software Updater” component on my xp.
IMO, this component needs to be more precise.
I used to let it do its thing, however I’ve had to double check and recheck to make sure it knows what it’s doing. :
