I noticed that this option was recently added in to Avast settings under “Notifications”. The wording got me wondering, does Avast record or take screen captures on it’s own in the background, or does this mean that it hides Avast notifications if you take a Windows screenshot yourself?

Yep. (Also while streaming, afaik.)

For Windows 10 users, Avast antivirus popups will not appear in screen recordings and streams.
