What if you drag the tray icon into the Hidden Icons area the ^ arrow on the left of the icons not hidden.
Yes, but what is the feature for if it does not work?
I can’t answer that if you haven’t tried it and said what happens ?
I’m also not sure what you mean by “Yes, but what is the feature for if it does not work?”
If you meant ‘future’ then we will cross that bridge when we need to.
Hiding the icon doesn’t mean it’s not working.
It’s just not being displayed but can still be reached by
selecting that ^ arrow.
Hide icon worked normally until i started using Windows 11, could it be the new OS?
I’m on Windows 11 and nothing has changed. Hiding still works as before.
Right click on an empty spot of the taskbar and select taskbar settings.
Select Taskbar corner overflow and from there you can select what items to show or hide.

I meant this - see screenshot.
Have you restarted the computer since the update?
The tray is automatically loaded to the taskbar at each restart.
Since I’m using Avast One, I can’t be of any further help.I can tell you that in Avat One,
the second I unselected Show Avast One icon in system tray, the icon vanished from the systray.

Have you tried Repairing Avast.
Menu>Settings>Thoubleshooting>[Repair App]
Then see what happens on Restart.
No, still happening, i wonder if someone can try this with Avast Free on both Windows 10 and 11 to check if it is the OS.
try to see if you don’t have 2 x the avast application in the applications to show in the taskbar, since the 21.10 update we are already several to have noticed that and it’s the wrong icon that is configured to be displayed in the system settings of the taskbar

don’t know about that, but just installed Avast one free and unticked ‘show icon in taskbar’, restarted pc, and icon appeared in taskbar.
I know you can hide it using windows, but its not the same and is puzzling the option is still available when it does not function.
I get the same error with avast free antivirus. As soon as I open menu > settings > notification and uncheck “Show avast tray icon”, the tray icon disappears like you would expect. But then upon reboot, it comes back even though “show avast tray icon” is still unchecked. If I then open the avast user interface and close it, the tray icon disappears again. Am running win10 21H2 19044.1466. Just want the tray icon permanently gone at boot up. Gotta be a bug.
Others and I face this too. It’s a known bug. Hopefully will get fixed soon.
You can hide (don’t show) the icon. You can’t delete (remove) it.
Hidden or removed is not the problem encountered.
The problem is that the avast settings is not respected, especially the checkbox “Show avast icon in system tray” = hide permanently.
Moreover in this case, as soon as you uncheck the box, the icon disappears completely from the system tray but the problem occurs at the next startup with the icon appearing again.
This is a bug recognized by avast (see the link given by Asyn).
