Hide email from public

Is there a way to hide one’s email from the Profile information?

I particularly do not want spam mail (duh) so am wondering what use it is to “hide the email” if it can be seen in one’s Profile. Do spammers not troll (if that is the word) for this info?

It is hidden from the public, only you and the moderators (Alwil staff) can see it, see image. The same is true in your profile also.

I think the word is trawl for email addresses and yes spambots do trawl websites trying to harvest email addresses.

okay go to profile then clic on account related settings on the left make sure that Hide email address from public? is checked off. you should be fine if thats done.

Thank you both. I had clicked Hide, but was surprised to see it in my profile.

Are you saying that only Admins and I can see it in my profile info and that if others click on my profile the email address won’t show?

Yup, your profile says hidden for the email address. So your good to go!

Did you not click on the images I posted that enlarges them and that is what a normal forum member sees.

Morning -

When I go into my profile, it does give my email address. It does not say Hidden, as in your image.

And, yes, in Account related settings, I did check to hide my email…

Being you are logged in as you then this is standard. It shows the ‘admin’(you) of the account what email he/she has listed in case its time to change it.

No one else gets to see it though. Im pretty sure you got that though.

If you have more than one browser installed, use the one that you haven’t used to log into this forum, and then visit http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=55835.msg471977#msg471977 which is your last post to this thread. It likely won’t show your email address to you, and you’ll see what most of us see when reading your posts(moderators excepted).

You can edit your own posts only. Go to the post and select the “modify” button.
It’s possible you may not be able to do this until you have 20 posts.

Since I do not see that choice at the bottom of the screen (The choices begin with Reply, Notify, etc.), I guess I will have to wait.

“Modify” button would be beside the Quote button in the title of your post if you have rights to edit it.
