well, this is a virus that I belive activated 1st february (scripted by date?),
some days before this some of my programs stopped working, but it wasnt until that day it decided to put a horde of gibberish characters on several often used files. The way I could tell is that once I turned on the pc no program could be started, they’d all bring up an error message and crash, the error message was more or less “required dll winsock32.dll(not sure of filename, roughly similar) wasnt found.”
in scandisk, it told me that all of the files that I knew were infected (some had gibberish in the filename, other simply suddelny stopped executing), had been modified so that they’d overwrite eachother, for example:
you got img.gif doc.txt and mus.mp3 img.gif writes parts of itself on doc.txt, which in turn is also writing part of itself on mus.mp3, and mus.mp3 writes over the other 2
this, except it seems to do it with every archive infected over several folder, this prevents me from deleting them
on a particular folder it did something interesting
say you got D:/folder/subfolder/
then it made a folder named something like .a.a.a.a.a.a.a.a./ (not exactly) this folder was a copy of /folder with /subfolder included, this subfolder also contained .a.a.a.a.a.a.a.a./ and it looped like that, until it was simply imposible to acces the next folder because the path was too long.
I dont know if my PC is still infected, I have made Avast scan the hardrive, but it always gets stuck at the loophole folder, can anyone give me a hint of what virus this is and how to threat it?

Sounds more like your disk is corrupted rather than an infection.

Well, it did happen MOSTLY on one new 80 gigs drive I bought, but it also affected a completly diferent 10 gigs drive where I hold the windows data that had never done something like this to me
how is it posible that my corrupted new drive also affected the old drive?
if you still think it was a corrupted drive,do you know of any way to recover my information? and do I have to throw away this hard drive? could a virus corrupt my hds?
I really need some help, I dont know how to threat this at all, if this is inapropiate for this forum, please give me a link to a place where I can ask help for this
