Maybe Related to Avast, not sure, Avast service was using anywhere from 21-35mb or higher, last night running Firestorm viewer ram usage got to 99 percent, removed it this morning as it was aggravating me, almost was gonna do a clean WIndows 10 Install, but decided to wait. Running Windows Defender now for time being, might just attempt to stay with this til after Anniversary update/my Windows 10 Pro upgrade I wanna get, then maybe come back to using Avast
With Avast no longer installed, holding memory wise with everything open 59 percent, previously was averaging 76, 85, 95, and sometimes 99 percent, ran full scan, nothing found
Should I do a clean reinstall of Avast? and if it acts the same, Generate a support package? I don’t really mind using Defender right now as it’s running great for the moment, 70 percent of ram in use with everything open, versus 85-99 percent like I was previously. Is there a unfixed Memory leak in Avast?
Without avast installed, it is not possible to troubleshoot
I suggest to install avast and see what happens.
Sometimes you need to reboot a few times.
If that doesn’t solve it, perform a repair of avast.
Let’s start with this.
It rather depends on what you are doing, but as said without it installed it is almost impossible to test/say.
The only thing that I’m aware of is when you open the avastUI and from there open the Tools > Statistics - with any of the statistics sections opened, RAM usage escalates until you close the statistics and UI windows. CPU also gets up to 50% and stabilises at around 35%.
Once closed RAM & CPU is reduced to normal usage.
If you don’t have the UI and statistics windows open then this isn’t your issue.
Ok Ram Holding right now after reinstall 56 percent, with all normal progams open currently
, which include
Firestorm Viewer 4.77.48706 64bit
Skype Desktop 7.23.85.105
and Microsoft Edge Browser
Startup Programs are Logitech Gaming Software, Realtek audio control, HP Printer Digital Imaging Software, Microsoft Onedrive, Malwarebytes Anti Exploit, otherwise nothing much else installed, i’m fine with ram holding round 60 percent, as that was right where Windows Defender was last 2 days, CPU usage for 8 core system here nice and low 13 percent with all this open, so not an issue there. Hopefully all my issues solved now, and just wait til I either get my money to upgrade to Windows 10 Pro or Anniversary update releases in July, at which point clean install will be done of Windows 10 Home, and slowly reinstall all software
Well Avast service had 60-100mb of ram at one point when I looked at it, Firestorm viewer 1,995mb at the time, didn’t really see anything else using a ton of ram, have 8gb of ram, just like my old system, never had this issue before, but exact cause not positive on, did remove Teamviewer, and Chrome, and will stick with Windows 10 Edge browser and IE 11, so far holding well memory wise at the moment.
That isn’t a high RAM usage as at times of high activity avast is also going to be busy.
Firestorm viewer ram usage got to 99 percent
Given the above it isn’t a memory leak in avast or it would be assigned to an avast service avastSvc.exe or avastUI.exe. One thing I would suggest is be brutal on what you allow to run on boot. Many programs install and want to run on boot when they only need to be run before they are used. Media players are one such function that only need to be run when you click on a media file.
Chrome can be somewhat heavy on RAM as can Firefox (I use that as my default), but on this system I only have 4GB of RAM and that is more than adequate. So it is somewhat strange where this RAM escalation is coming from, given you have 8GB of RAM.
yeah very strange where it’s really coming from, startup items as minimum as can be I think at the moment–I guess when I do my future clean install, may install less lol, either when I get Windows 10 Pro giftcard to upgrade to that, or when Anniversary update comes out.
done a few scans with Avast, Malwarebytes, eset online scan, no infection at all, so not that causing ram usage to escalate at all
I have no idea what Firestorm is meant to do but that is a shed load of RAM being used. Mind you RAM is there to be used, no point in having 8GB and only using a little.
Have you checked to see if Firestorm Viewer has a forum, if so it might be worth a search for high RAM use issues.
Yeah will check to see if they have a forum, and yeah I don’t mind using ram, just didn’t like when system got slow as a crawl and couldn’t do anything, otherwise don’t mind
