Hijack This says Avast 4 files are missing - but they aren't.

Hijack This say that the following Avast4 files are missing:

023 Service Avast! Web Scanner - Unknown owner - C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4\AshMaiSv.exe /service (file missing)
023 Service Avast! Web Scanner - Unknown owner - C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4\AshWebSv.exe /service (file missing)

However, both files ARE exactly as named and in the place referenced. What’s the issue? Is this a HiJack This software issue or is Avast not working? How can I tell if Avast is actually truly monitoring my web and mail activity?

You seem to be using an old version of HijackThis. It’s a bug on the /service parameter.

Almost certainly an old version of HJT as Tech mentioned, this was a common fault.
