Nothing serious.

(1) O20 - AppInit_DLLs:

odd entry. I can’t recommend fixing it rightaway. Let’s wait for a cofirmation by someone.

b Firewall[/b]
It seems like your Vista’s Outbound Protection is not enabled yet.

(3) Deactivated entry [tick check]

O3 - Toolbar: (no name) - {CCC7A320-B3CA-4199-B1A6-9F516DD69829} - (no file)

Nothing wrong with the O20 - AppInit_DLLs: entry.

The O3 - Toolbar: (no name) - {CCC7A320-B3CA-4199-B1A6-9F516DD69829} - (no file) entry relates to AVG, http://www.systemlookup.com/search.php?type=clsid&client=malwaresearch-ff&search={CCC7A320-B3CA-4199-B1A6-9F516DD69829} AVG Security Toolbar.

So it looks like you still have remnants, this should be fixed and toy should run the AVG removal tool.

AVG8 Remover, download tool from here, http://www.avg.com/download-tools there is a 32bit and 64 bit windows version, ensure you use the correct one.

Thank you so much!

You’re welcome,

Though you didn’t say why you felt the need to have the hijackthis log looked at ?

Well, when I had Avira my protection was somehow disabled, even though there lil umbrella was open!!! I freaked out and uninstalled Avira. Put Avast back to work and scanned in safe. Found nothing I then ran Malwarebytes and it found nothing. So I feel pretty good now. Also while using Avira when all of that happened, i had been on yahoo messenger with my brother.

After I closed a few minutes later a window popped open with yahoo.messenger.exe/mybro’sscreen name. That is really what started the whole thing, that is when i noticed somehow Avira had been disabled without my knowledge.

Someone said my outbound firewall is not enabled. How do I do this?

I have Outpost, but I really don’t understand firewalls. Would I be better off using Outpost?

Well avast to start with would give you better on-line protection than avira in my opinion, so the prevention side to stop it getting on the system in the first place is important.

I don’t use Vista and its firewall even with outbound protection isn’t very user friendly, you only need to look at my signature to see what my answer is about Outpost, which provides full outbound protection and is much more user friendly. Though HJT shows that you haven’t got Outpost installed.

Oh believe me, i have the premium version of Avira…and that is the only reason I was going to use it, I got it with Trial Pay…so i paid a little for it. But free Avast is by far my fav AV that I have used…including Norton 360. I guess I will try Outpost again. I just have trouble with all the notifications, I dont really know what I’m doing

What version of Outpost do you have as that would be crucial to how it works ?

With outpost, it depends on what you have it set-up to do, if you use the Rules Wizard, it has a white list of the usual applications so for the most part it recognises these and offers to create rules for that application.

For the novice firewall user you could set it up to allow most, which means it makes most of the decisions for you, certainly the more difficult or complex ones. You should also allow it to be in learning mode (a default on install) so it gets to know how you use your computer. After that yes there may be some pop-ups in the first couple of weeks as you use applications not used in the learning period, but then it gets more stable/quiet.

Outpost when compared to many others is not to noisy (pop-up questions) so it shouldn’t be too bad.

I am using the latest free version. I will adjust to allow most. Also the last couple times I booted, I get a message AMD Raid XPER has stopped working, says windows is searching for the problem, any idea there?

Sorry, I don’t have an AMD Raid chip, which I guess is on your motherboard. I suggest a google search on the question you asked here, e.g. http://www.google.com/search?q=AMD+Raid+XPER+has+stopped+working and see if there is anything in these results.

Do you actually use raid, if not you could probably disable it in the BIOS settings, sorry don’t ask, I don’t know where in the BIOS ;D
