One of our computers is infected with a trojan, I’m having some difficulty pinning it down. Would someone be kind enough to look for clues in this logfile?

Nasty.

Follow a general cleaning routine first.

I’ve done boot scans over and over, deleted Temp Internet Files, but there is an .exe being reloaded over and over again into the TIF folder, and several files in the Temp folder that can’t be deleted- can you be specific about what a cleaning routine would entail?

Try a scan with DrWeb CureIT!

Try the usual free adware/spyware scanners.

AVG Anti-Spyware Free (Requires Win2k/XP)

Ad-Aware Free

Spybot Search & Destroy

SUPERAntiSpyware Free

Download, install and update the programs. Disconnect from the internet (pull the plug) before running scans in Safe Mode if possible.

Always select the option to quarantine any malware found rather than delete it, then you will be able to restore files or registry entries wrongly identified as malware- a rare but not unknown event for any malware scanner.

Try some online scans. (Disable avast! while scanning.)

Trend Micro Housecall
ESET Online Scanner

If these steps fail to work, look for and remove rootkits (hidden malware):

You may find that access to some websites is blocked.

The files system.exe and gencroot.exe are detected as Troj/HacDef-X. The file sirh0t_changes_ur_hostfile.bat is a batch script that modifies the system hosts file, preventing access to certain anti-virus websites.
