Save your Money to buy extra (RAM) use a safer Browser+ e-mail program. There are some excellent spyware/scumware software protection programs available for Free just look at Avast.

If you want resident protection, try SpywareDoctor Starter Edition (from Google Pack) or Spyware Terminator.
If you want only on-demand scanning, try AVG Antispyware, SUPERantispyware, and/or a-squared (take care about false positives).
Lavasoft has improved its detection/features in newest versions… although it does not have a very good detection rate imho.
