I have three computers all connected on my home network (XP, Win7). Up until today they all were able to communicate with each other with no problems. Today Avast updated to the new engine version 2014 on one computer. Now that computer is no longer visible by the other computers. The network setting is private. When I turned the Firewall off, it didn’t help. However, when I deleted the new version on that computer, all the computers worked fine so it must be a setting within the New Avast that is preventing the other computers from communicating with the new Avast 2014. Does anyone know what the settings should be to allow the communications agains?
I am sorry about your issues.
There is a Avast Repair option in the Add/Remove programs in your computer that would solve most issues with Avast.
Click on “Start”, find “Control Panel” and click on it. A new window will open. Scroll down until you see Programs, click on it. Another panel will open up, you should see at the top Programs and Features, click on it and another panel will open up. Scroll down until you see Avast Internet Security, once you find it, right click it (hover your mouse over it will say Uninstall/Change). Once you click it another panel will be shown from Avast. Their will be several options for you to choose from. On the left side there will be shown the following. Update, Change, Repair, and Uninstall. Click on REPAIR and follow the instructions. This should fix any issues you have with Avast.
Please let me know if this corrects your issues.
After the repair or re-install, do you have “Friends” checked for the Private network? Also, you can check in the “System Rules” (in the Firewall Settings) to see if ‘Allow Windows File and Printer Sharing’ is enabled and checked (active) in the “Packet Rules” (Windows Networking In / Windows Networking Out).
