I just gotm and installed Avast Home. It all set up ok and ran a scan, fine. Rebooted my pc and now the icons dont appear in the system tray and when i click on the prog in the file list the splash screen appears then the keypad control. But if I set the resident Protection to standard it wont stay!! as soon as I closae the control pad thats it no prog and when reopened no resident protection!! whats goin on?
Which is your operational system?
Do you use any startup monitor application? PrevX, ProcessGuard, TeaTimer, Ad-Watch, WinPatrol?
Do you use any other antivirus in your computer?
Did you try to repair your installation?
Go to Control Panel > Add/Remove programs > avast! antivirus > Remove. Then choose Repair function in the popup window (Repair). You must be connected to the internet while repairing.
Ok I dont have any of those running, and I’vejust done the repair thin. No difference. I have Outpost Pro running . When I get the interface up I change resident rotecrion to standard then click the X box, no icon in the tray, so click for interface again and voila the resident protection is on disabled again!!!
im going out on a limb here and predicting that you last had norton AV and you still have remnants of it in your system that corrupted your installation of Avast!
I hope im wrong but this is what i suspect.
Nope no Norton. Before sunday morning I was running Nod32 and Zone Alarm Pro quite happily, then I installed SP2. What a mistake, I lost both those progs! I got rid of SP2 cos it was also stopping my access to the internet through FireFox and all was well with the internet, but still no Nod32 Or ZA. So uninstalled both and now when I try to reinstall ZA or Nod they appear to install but something stops them running properly as they disappear when I open them. So now I have Avast and the same applies!. Really frustrated here.
sounds like your OS is suffering a little. do you have your windows disk handy?
it appears you got some problems to sort out before you worry about what you are going to run.
Is it possible to do a system restore?
SilverDales, SP2 can’t block internet access unless you follow the way you’ve done, not uninstalling ZA Pro before installing SP2.
I really suggest a clean Windows installation, then fully update including SP2.
Then installing avast! and after it, the Zone Alarm Pro.
I didnt uninstall ZA before uinstalling SP2,plus now I’ve found that MSN messemger wont sign in it says the gateway is closed and the windows messenger stays open even though I have it checked NOT to auto load with windows!
