Home vs Pro

From what I see on page http://www.avast.com/i_idt_1018.html and in the new Avast! 4.1.280 red X-es are missing!

Strange, I’ve downloaded the file at 9 Oct 2003 and the providers were there. At least, if the user download the PRO version and choose not install the specific files of PRO, i.e., install all HOME version, I get the providers and they were working as an HOME installation. ::slight_smile:

strange indeed! ???

i noticed that when i recommended avast to my friend last few days back, and he asked me the difference between home and pro versions.

asfdem, shgoh…

It appears that the chart is clearly in error.
Avast 4.1.280 Home will install 5 modules including P2P and Instant Messenger.

The differences between Home and Pro are sutble.
As you can see, Home does not provide Script protection whereas Pro does. With Home, you can add a 3rd party program such as AnalogX Script Defender.

In addition, the Pro version allows the user to select which of the On Access modules they wish to install.

The Pro will allow the user more advanced configuration than the Home.

BUT BOTH PROTECT EQUALLY WELL!

If you are a set and forget type of person, I would recommend you stick with the Home version for now.

but if your like me and always want to putter around with things…then go for it!..Avast Pro.

i knew there’s an error…juz feel strange and wanna confirm…coz mine is working fine ;D

Sorry we’ll fix this. But I don’t quite understand WHO took the x’s away - they were there, for sure… ::slight_smile:

no worries vlk… ;D

asafdem,

Thank you for being so observant. That is what makes this forum one of the best!
No matter what we have to contibute, we do it for the benefit of all!

VLK,

and thank you for looking into this. I had confirmed on the web page that the x’s were gone before contacting you.
SOMEONE took them off. Glad that asafdem caught it!!

Indeed, this is an a-w-e-s-o-m-e forum and so is the Avast! team. I never, ever think of going back to any other aniti-vir progam. Cheers to you all! ;D

Kind words, techie101. Thanks a lot. But, if it is not too much to ask, could you help me boost my karma a bit?

It’s me, again. Any comments?

I think that the page http://www.avast.com/i_idt_1018.html was completely reviewed and seems to be ok now. Some options has disapeared ::slight_smile: but I think always is correct now. The behavior of Home and Professional version seems to be the same as when they was released on version 4.1

That’s great, but in the post just above yours, I was talking about Avast! 4 help file. If I’m right, the help file needs a review too!

Yes, you’re right (I mean, this is what is written on help files). Maybe Vlk could confirm this… Although, I think that except scanning CAB files, the others are just PRO version features.

Please, igor, if necessary, do any changes in translated files too  Thanks.

OK, I’ll fix it.
The CAB scanning seems to be wrong; not sure about the rest, however… isn’t it OK?

Not so sure about scanning the cabs, I tought I saw it somewhere in this forum, but for other two, I asure you, those features are present and working in home version of Avast! 4.1.280. I tested them!

And yes, it does scan inside the cab archives. Just select archives and set scanning level to torough. Once the scanning is finished you can preform some action on scanning result(s)!

I believe the CAB scanning… I was just curious about the other 2

True, since Home version cannot store scan results, you cannot perform action(s) on them, but you can always perform an action on the last scan result! As for sending an email when infected file is found, don’t beleive anything, try it and you’ll see!

Right, I think what the help writer wanted to emphasise is the lack of scanning tasks in the Home Ed., ie. per-scan settings. Maybe these table rows on that help page should be rephrased a bit (can you take care of it, Igor? thanks).
