Hotmail Problems

I’ve tried to use the hotmail troubleshoot but each time i do it says my host files are failing and then the avast square in right corner of screen pops up saying it is protecting me from VB:Malware-Gen can anybody help me on this ? ???

Hi Convinco, welcome to the forum

For the relevant people to be able to help you more, a little more info is needed

Can you provide a screenshot of the alert? - Or post the full contents of the popup.
(If posting a URL, please deactivate it - Change http to hXXp)

Where is the hotmail troubleshooter exactly, we can try and see if it is your machine or something on the net.
EDIT: Found a hotmail troubleshooting page, how are you using it?

Following that, it may be a good idea to at least scan with avast, and MBAM

Hi Convinco,

Could be a False Positive, wait for a next update, see earlier issues with VBS:Malware-gen: http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=32894.30
Tell us where it was found: “Sign of “VBS:Malware-gen” has been found in …” (munge the address like http into hXtp)

polonus

It says ;
Avast! IM shield has blocked a threat .
no further action is required.

Object : C:\WINDOWS\System32\Drivers\etc\hosts.msn
Infection: VBS:Malware-Gen
Action : moved to chest
Process: C:\Program Files\Windows Live\Messenger\Msnmsgr.exe

The threat was detected and blocked when the file was created or modified

Interesting, this hosts.msn appears to be a bad one…

Luckily, essexboy, our resident malware expert should be able to help. OTL is his middle name ;D

Can you follow the instructions in this thread:
http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=53253.0

Post the MBAM, and OTL scan logs here, using the Addiotional Options - Attach function to you next post. I will notify essexboy and he will take a look at the logs.
