Sounds like a standalone web shield

Only this one costs money.

Well there is a free version also, only the Pro version is a paid product.
Contra - not so many country supported.

It’s also available through Firefox. Personally I can see where this could be useful, but
not for everyday usage. There might be times when I will use it. Too many add-ons
and/or gadgets will slow down a users web surfing.

Zenmate has a flash leak and will leak your IP unless your using a flash control extension. With extension it works well. I don’t remember the name of the extension.

Used the free version around a year ago. I didn’t keep it as it didn’t appear to offer any additional protection over and above Peerblock and using a regularly updated Hosts file.

You might find this interesting. Sometimes, just for peace of mind I run ThreatCheck overnight when the machine isn’t being used. In theory it should pick up any botnet activity.

It will monitor and log the ip addresses of any connections made and report if any are suspicious or known blacklisted by cross-checking with various databases.

Note: Requires email sign up and you will recieve at least one marketing email from them if you use your personal email address.

Command line usage if you prefer to use it that way:

threatcheck.exe/t N

where N is the scan duration in number of minutes.
