How did I get SecureLine?

So I always thought SecureLine was a free feature… I was reading today and apparently you have to buy a licence to it. I never paid for it, and my subscription status is always set to 31 days…

Is this a virus, glitch, or some promotion going on? I’m concerned about the security of this.

Thanks for any help!

Have you tried connecting to any of the Servers/using the service?
Possible a Trial Version, however I don’t understand the 31 days. ???

I’ve been using it this entire time, for months! That’s why I’m so concerned about security after learning it’s not supposed to be free! MAYBE I paid for it and forgot about it, but I don’t see it on any of my statements, nor does the “31 days” count down ever…

When visiting “http://securedns.ff.avast.com/” it shows
“Everything’s OK, you are protected
by SecureDNS or SecureLine VPN”

I have now reinstalled avast completely and it still allows me to use secureline… lol

Guess you’re lucky…
If you want it gone, let us know.

Well, SecureLine is a seperate product.
Removing avast will (and should) not remove SecureLine.
If it is still valid, it can be there is the auto-renewal.

Hi colby9494

Have you activated the trial in the past ?
Or did you get a license file from someone else than Avast or a Reseller?

I am not saying you did something wrong, but this is really strange !

Greetz, Red.

I didn’t download it from the avast website, I got it from CNET. http://download.cnet.com/Avast-Free-Antivirus-2016/3000-2239_4-10019223.html

Is this really controlled at the client side? I mean, it seems like the actual server would do some verification no? Could I have been given a fake licence that actually works??

When I uninstalled avast, the secureline icon dissapeared and no trace was left. So that’s a bit odd. It’s not showing up on my paypal ever either.

Yes, it a separte product but you can’t have it without avast, there is no separate installer, it is a part of avast. And yes, I’d like to have a never ending trial for it

In fact, you can: https://www.avast.com/faq.php?article=AVKB63#idt_102

OK, my bad… Seems you can install only SecureLine from avast installer… :o

Nope, you have to use the standalone installer.

Just to add, There has been a “stand alone” version of Secureline for about 2 years as I have used that version on a production machine that does not have Avast installed

https://www.avast.com/en-us/secureline-vpn

Also for added information, Secureline VPN Service came “pre-installed” with a 30 Trial Period on my new HP ENVY that I purchased 6 months ago. This stand alone version was installed along side of McAfee Internet Security on the laptop, which I uninstalled.

Hi W

Yes I know from your 30 days trial period, but you had to activate it I presume ?
And I think it is the same for colby9494 : He must have activated the trial or a “licencse”.

Greetz, Red.

Yes, once the trial period ended, option was to purchase/activate Service Time.
1 month/ 1 year/ or more.
I ended up settling for 1 year for about $50
It’s interesting to note that many are not aware of the Stand Alone Version not to mention, that many, someone/Avast who ever, provides direction to do a Clean Install or Repair of Avast to clear up an issue with Secureline isn’t helping or giving appropriate direction if the user is using the Stand alone version and doesn’t have Avast installed.
So just a bit of confusion I’m seeing from time to time.

I may have, but I’ve been using it for months like I said. 35 days total time spent connected 82.4GB sent. Seems the trial would have ran out many months ago if it was a trial… I don’t know though seems like avast support would offer more help for a customer just trying to pay them -.–…

Use it for a few more months and see if anything changes. 8)

Like I said, my only problem is that maybe this is somehow a virus masquerading as secureline and really just sending all my data to some hacker… Lol maybe I
m paranoid

I seriously doubt there is any infection/virus involved here, HOWEVER if you feel the need, you can have one of our Malware removal experts have a look see.
