How do I clean infected files?

I left a client’s house today and left avast (the free version) doing a full system scan. She (an older lady) called me and said it found 7 infected files. She can’t find a way to “clean” these files (and I’ve never used this program). After the scan is finished, isn’t their a “clean” button of some sort?

Hi hciwizard

You send the infected files to the virus chest - you will be offered the option.
Once in the virus chest, the infected files are quarantined so yr system is safe from them.

please do not delete the files as you do not know immediately the status of the files - mostly they will be bad stuff, but occasionally they can be needed system files that the virus has got to, and sometimes they can be false positives (false alerts) - so if delete then you leave yrself no options to restore.

You better let old lady know to take option to send to virus chest, until you return. Sometimes a bit to do to reset PC system - usual minor stuff - tune up, etc…reply post here, someone will respond.

a “repair” option is there every time (in v5), but not all malware families are cleanable… what are you dealing with in this particular case?

On a rational not, I think MSE (set & forget) is recommended for the Noob. Sorry Fanboy’s, I use Avast myself, but Grandma and Grandpa need a lighter gradient in my opinion.

hi mkis!! i have a question and no need to post new because its only question.
what is the effect to the computer if the three
kernel32.dll
winsock.dll
wsock32.dll
is not in the virus chest?
after the computer is infected with malware
this three are gone ???

Hi hciwizard

Maxx is best option to answer yr calls in this thread. Thanks Maxx.

@ Entity - wrong thread, you have to start yr own thread, if you think what you say is important.

@ bong2x - you know some would say that you have found the perfect place for you and yr computer. That said, I have not come across a situation where the three files are gone, because there is avast 4.8 rule never do anything to those files. I hope it is only a question - and why can you not go into yr own Help file or search the forum and find the answer yrself? You seem to get about the place okay.

mkis, look’s like we are both entitled to our own opinion on this thread…

 thanks mkis for your post!!
your good man too for someone need helps
you answer is in good manner,
by the way it easy to add it from system32 if a file is still there
this three is very important files to be keep forever
i cannot see any nearest post about that
and this threads i see the new and nearest.

thanks mkis :-*

best regards to all

well not forever because they are not part of v.5 - they are only found in avast 4.8

bong2x

please start yr own thread when you want to say something like this because the OP may have found files in his client’s chest that needed to be repaired. It looks as if that has not turned out to be the case - he has probably only detected some standard malwares - and situation not as bad as could have been.

But still thread does not look nice.

ok sorry for interrupting you!
is there a way to delete my last post here so you can help
clearly here?

thank you mkis

best regard to all
