Wondering, why do you have to end an antivirus related process? IT would be odd to find a software that would need to ask you to turn off an antivirus before playing.
I can’t understand why this would be necessary as:
a) the ashDisp.exe doesn’t provide any security function
b) it is just the avast ‘a’ icon
c) it is the interface to the program settings and on-access scanners, if you turn off avast protection, you need the avast ‘a’ icon to be able to restart it without having to reboot.
So I can see no reason to disable what is an inert, non-scanning element of avast.
So what reasons does the game makers give for this ?
What errors are displayed if you ignore their instruction to disable avast ?
Why do you need to close ‘almost all’ processes using the Task manager ?
What is wrong with the right click on the ‘a’ icon and select Stop On-Access Protection (even though I don’t agree that it should be stopped), the way to temporarily stop all scanning processes ?
ok, means it’s just an icon… processes interfere with the game they say I don’t know why heck but it’s a good game from EA so I trust them - and I’m not online when antivirus is off anyway…
They don’t say to close avast, to close all processes if possible.
Hmmm… I never believe on software (or games) that ask for user to disable the antivirus.
Anyway, ashdisp.exe is NOT an antivirus and shouldn’t interfere with nothing.
Let it there (and even do NOT disable avast) and check if the game works. If not, ask for help instead of disabling the antivirus.
Can you just tell me how to remove this from Task Manager Processes list. Otherwise I have to uninstall Avast, because I really need to test out to see…
I agree with you that antivirus is protection, etc… but I need to know for a good reason of mine how to remove this from Task Manager.
I would have though that the primary test would be to run. the game ‘without’ disabling avast to see what happens. Errors displayed, etc.
You said:
So I though that you had already disabled the other avast processes from the task manager. If you get the same errors then you are bumping into the avast self-defence module (program settings, troubleshooting) blocking attempts to disable avast.
I still can’t see how the ashDisp.exe has any impact as it has no security function in avast.
Can you please change your signature as it is against the forum rules to promote commercial software (An annual subscription for NoAdware™ is only $47.00 (US)), more so when you have an interest in it.
For the person that talks something unrelated to this thread, NoAdware:
NoAdware was promoted by lots of affiliates years ago and they used many deceptive marketing systems and that’s why NoAdware as listed on such websites.
NoAdware changed it’s Affiliate policy then and bans any affiliate that promotes the software using such methods - they do this to prevent the dignity of the software. Probably that’s not enough for someone like you know it all. OK?>
I did not need your reply nor do I need another reply from you… and sig will only change if it’s a moderator or admin who tells me… or you’re one of those who is so happy that you’re one that you think we’re just plain vanilla members and you can say what the you want? I suggest you delete your account and go paint your face on the wall and stare at it…
As for ashdish I know now that I cannot stop this thing from task manager or at least remove it from task manager it keeps giving an error…
It is related because you post it in the thread which is against the forum rules to promote commercial products, it is that simple and could be considered link spamming.
Advertising it by sticking links in your signature in posts to threads is promoting it.
My signature doesn’t give links to the software I use, but is general information about my system spec and some of the software I use. All of which have free versions of the software, some I choose to pay for the paid options.
Avast!'s pop up notifications sometimes cause problems with games running in full screen mode.
Right-click on tray icon > Start avast! Antivirus; Click Menu > Settings > Troubleshooting and check the box labelled “Check for full screen applications (e.g. games) before displaying pop ups”, then OK.
Even if you completely disable avast!, which I wouldn’t do except for diagnostics after some problem manifested, ashDisp.exe will still be running because, as already explained, it’s only the tray icon.
It was, once upon a time, possible to disable all avast! services - including ashDisp from Startup - by running msconfig.
I had a good reason for doing so at the time (tray icons not displaying correctly) and disabling avast! was one ‘workaround’ I found. The other was disabling some service on which displaying sysinfo depends. Neither of them really good solutions; and I found something better since.
Question is:
Given I’m logged on with administrative privileges and using XP Home edition…
Why is it no longer possible to disable avast! using msconfig?
Wouldn’t it be a good idea to make it so, just in case it turned out to be (while hoping it never would become) necessary?
