How do I disable the green invitation to "get a new version on the net?"

Many times my computer slows down, and then a green sign comes up from the bottom right saying “avast has a new version on the net. Click here to download it.”

How do I disable this? I do not want a “new version” as this one works fine on my Windows 98 computer.

But I don’t want to stop the automatic virus protection. I want to keep getting all the new updated virus protection against new viruses that are out there.

Please tell me how I turn off the green invitation for a “new version” and not turn off my automatic virus updates.

Thank.

By not clicking it then it won’t download it, you have obviously set auto updates to ask rather than automatically install. From the same interface change that to manual for Program updates, avast! Program Settings, Update (Basic).

I think doing that is not a good idea, remaining frozen in time with an old version of the program, I know there were those with win98, some of whom experienced problems with an update but, others that didn’t experience any problem. There has to be a degree of trust to at least try an update if for no other reason it might be fixing a bug that might case a problem but more importantly to improve your security.

It is possible to go back to the older version via filehippo.com, etc. if you experience a problem, but at the very least you should try it (IMHO).

Thanks, David. For now I am setting both updates to manual.

Maybe I can remember to update myself, and not have my running programs hang when the automatic update comes on.
