How do I downgrade from Avast 8 to Avast 7?

I just got the prompt to upgrade the version of Avast so I told it to upgrade and while it was doing so I finished watching a movie on YouTube 30 seconds after it finished the process of upgrading Avast the screen froze, came back up, “Display driver stopped responding but has recovered”, and I know it’s Avast 8 because I’ve been using Avast 7 all this time and never had that happen once. So whats the easiest way to downgrade back to Avast 7 without having to reconfigure the entire program. I’m using AMD catalyst 13.1 drivers for future reference. Awesome anti virus just the new version doesn’t agree with my system right now.

EDIT: On an unrelated note and this may sound like a stupid question but can I purge my virus chest by having Avast delete the contents. I can’t help feel I’m guarding a prison full of dangerous inmates in an “The Walking Dead” type world and I know I don’t need the files so…

Avast! Free Antivirus 7.0.1474

Use FileHippo Mirror link.
Avast Uninstall Utility
http://www.avast.com/uninstall-utility
Uninstall all previous Avast versions in Safe Mode
Hope this helps.

I did everything you told me the un-installation and re-installation went fine but it auto-updated to 8.0 without even given me a option to say no.

Did you use FileHippo Mirror link?
File is around 90 mb.

Yep, installed it. Rebooted as it asked and it was 8.0.

I’m thinking File Hippo mislabeled the file.

EDIT: I just went back to the FileHippo page. Yes the reported file size for 7.0 is 90mb but I the one on the confirmation dialog box is 107. It looks like the website is auto directing to 8.0 even though 7.0 is being selected.

That is weird.I don’t know what to tell you.
Maybe you should try OldApps:
http://www.oldapps.com/avast_antivirus.php

Ok looking at the file you linked from Oldapps in Windows Explorer both the file size and reported version number reported match. Let me do the procedure a again and I will see if 7.0 installs ok I’m not expecting any problems though.

Ok, I have 7.0 again. I thank you with all my heart. I do look forward to upgrading to 8.0 but there seems to be a possible problem between Avast and the Catalyst display driver… Also why is Avast telling me to upgrade 7.0.1483 that’s how I ended up with 8.0 to begin with.

Yes,that is a bug.It should say update to 8.0.1483.
Version 8 is working fine for me after some problems I had before
are fixed.
