avast will not tell me how to get it off my cpu, they keep popping up every few minutes demanding me to buy an up grade…

Same way you are supposed to remove all Windows programs…Control Panel>>Add/Remove Programs, or Control Panel>>Programs & Features, depending on your OS.
If that does not work, use the uninstall utility in safe mode>>http://www.avast.com/uninstall-utility
With that finished, now you can get a real virus and learn the difference between an invasive/malfunctioning antivirus program and something that installs rootkits and sends out your passwords. 
That’s strange, I’ve used avast! since 2003 and count the number of requests to convert on one hand.
Are you sure you’re using the same program I am ???
Maybe he hasnt registered the free version and its past 30 days or is soon approaching 30 days?
