I am writing this to help out my mother-in-law. She has a friends address that avast keeps telling her that it is a virus. She is wondering how to stop this. Is there a way for her to get avast to accept the address and stop marking it as a virus.
avast doesn’t tell if a email address from a sender is bad or not.
It only tells if the message received contains a danger/infection.
Tell your mom’s friends not to send infected mails.
And I strongly suggest to get a firewall.
Router with build in hardware firewall is the best there is.
As alternative you can use a software firewall like ZoneAlarm or Sunbelt Kerio Personal Firewall (both freeware)
Besides, if that system is up to date there is already a semi firewall.
Make sure ALL latest patches/updates for XP are installed.
What is the virus that is being detected ?
I suspect (excuse the pun) that it is a Suspicious email warning (Heuristic) and not a virus.
If so, what are the full detailed of why avast thinks it is a virus, e.g. iFrame, too much white space ?
I also assume that your mother-in-law’s friend is actually sending these and not someone else’s infected system that has her friends email in their address book.
So I think as you can see we need a lot more detailed information to be able to help fully.
