How do I get rid of a threat that is password protected?

Hi,

I am getting loads of popups in my browser windows as indicated by attachment and when I scan, it says the threat is password protected. How do I get rid of them?

Frustrated, :frowning:
Caroline

as the text at top of the scan result say … some files could not be scanned
just a scan error message and not a detection

How do I handle files that avast! can’t scan? https://blog.avast.com/2014/02/28/how-do-i-handle-files-that-avast-cant-scan/

your ad popups are most likely related to crap in your computer

if you want a check and free removal see instructions here https://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=53253.0
attach Malwarebytes and Farbar Recovery Scan Tool logs (3 logs total)

when done, essexboy will assist you and remove any crap found

Note:
Clixsense is a trustworthy site.

Looks like a flash player install/update and it is password protecting its files and this is common.

I’m not sure how the 2nd image is related to the first or to your comments ?

Indeed, all file names seem to be legitimate Adobe Flash files.

I can’t read the site-name that is opened in the first tab, but it looks like a search for the OP’s name.
The second one is a PTC site which doesn’t look trustful to me.

Rollover ads is a Chrome infection

Thank you all and especially essexboy. It WAS just on Chrome. I researched removing rollover ads from Chrome and added the AdBlock plus extension as suggested and the problem disappeared. Finally! woot!

Again thanks all
Caroline ;D

Nevertheless, following Pondus instructions in reply # 2 to run and attach logs for Malwarebytes and Farbar Recovery Scan Tool would really show a real threat and Essexboy would remove it.

I agree with iroc9553 ( and Pondus ) and would advise the same
