I’m noticing that on outgoing Gmail emais I send the following “attachment” or “signature” is added (this is how I view it, since my Gmail account is configured to send/receive email as plain text, as God intended email):
This email has been sent from a virus-free
computer protected by Avast. www.avast.com
How do I get rid of this crap? I dearly love Avast, but it is not my job to advertise it in my outgoing email. If this obnoxious behavior can’t be disabled, I will gladly move to another AV program that doesn’t do that.
AvastUI > Settings (the cog wheel icon) > Active Protection > Mail Shield > Customize > Behaviour - uncheck any insert notes that are enabled which you don’t want.
If you don’t have the Mail Shield installed you can Edit the EmailShield.ini (note you may need to run notepad as admin depending on OS), see Reply #7 in the above link.
This unwanted footer is truly infuriating and it is in emails sent from my iPhone as well as my PC. I cannot find under settings or elsewhere the mail shield referred to that is needed to disable this. Please advise or I will uninstall avast forever.
I think this is a nice feature - perhaps inspires confidence in my email recipients. But you know what? Because it was SNEAKED into my emails I have gone out of my way to turn it off.* How’s that pushy advertising working out for you in my case, Avast?
If you’d done a decent job of making the option more visible, I wouldn;t have ended up on this forum after ten minutes’ googling for a solution.
