How do I get rid of what I have indicated with the red outline in the following picture without reinstalling avast!?

It says that you installed google chrome, so maybe you just need to run it…have you tried that?
Yes, I tried several times and searched from the address bar (if that would change anything).
I’m running Windows 7.
Have you tried the blue button there?
Maybe you could block the connection that the UI makes to get this image…
You can block avastUI.exe from connecting, which just stops this ad section appearing…
Mr. R, when you installed Avast, did you opt to have chrome installed as well? I believe this is an opt in/out. You may have opted in.
As sgt SCOTT said, you might try the blue button. That should run Chrome but I’m not sure that will prevent other tips from showing up; it might be a “tip of the day” type of thing. If it does, great; if not, you might search the Settings and see if there’s an option to turn off any such tips, or search Help Center and see if it says anything about how to do it. If you want to get rid of Chrome entirely, you could see if it’s listed in Control Panel>Programs and Features. You could uninstall it from there without having to reinstall Avast. Or you could go to Control Panel>Programs and Features>Avast>Change. See if Chrome’s in the list. If it is, uncheck it and follow the instructions on the screen from there. That may or may not get rid of the tips. Once Avast thinks you have Chrome installed, it may be difficult to get it to think otherwise without a complete reinstall. ;D
