How do I get the Voice to work?

I have my updates set to automatic and my speakers are turned on but when the definitions update I do not get the voice telling me that. Any suggestions how to turn it on? Thanks

Hi tbird,

right click avast tray icon > program settings > sounds > uncheck disable avast sounds.

also if you want a sliding box :

right click avast tray icon > program settings > update (basic) > details > check show sliding box after automatic update.

that should do.

The first question would really have to be are you getting the auto updates ?

Are you getting the Blue pop-up window at the bottom right of the screen indicating that an update has taken place ?

The box is not checked in Sounds. Yes, I am getting the updates - received one today. Just not the voice. I check the about avast to see that I have the recent update.

Hi tbird!

Which OS do you use?
Do you use the default sound scheme of windows?

kind regards

Is your sound card/chip working outside of this ?

Are the avast! antivirus sounds listed in the Sounds and Audio Devices Properties window (see image), click the Settings… button in the Program Settings, Sound section ?

Try a repair of avast. Add Remove programs, select ‘avast! Anti-Virus,’ click the Change/Remove button and scroll down to Repair, click next and follow. This has in the past resolved this out of sync issue between reported and actual VPS version.

I lost the voice notification on Avast a while back.It was when I changed the wallpaper on my laptop. It classed it as a new theme.I got the sounds back when I went to the default settings.I don’t know if this is of any help to you but thats what happened to me.I am on Vista by the way.

I have XP SP 3. I tried the repair and that didn’t work. Use default settings. I am on dialup and when I am trying to connect to internet I hear the noise so I assume the sound is working…

David they are listed in the box you are showing…

Well, the noise while connecting to the internet (dialing) the sound usually comes directly from the modem… (as far as I remember).
Have you tried playing some song/sound with the windows media player? there should be some songs in the media library (pre-installed songs).

Yes, they come from your modem and why it is that strangled, squeaky sound.

There are also sounds on boot can also come from a very basic speaker on your motherboard, but other sounds should come either from a sound card to speakers or via speakers in your Monitor.

I use Winamp instead of WMP and I just tried it and it was loud and clear…

Well, the Voice worked this morning. Thanks for all the help.

Thanks for the feedback, computers, aghhhh

Me when I changed my theme even the whole sound was gone but I tried to repair it and it was a sucess by reconfiguring the sound in notepad!
