How do I know if Avast is registered?

Okee-dokee, here’s the story. My computer went absolutely nuts a few months ago, and I had to have someone come and look at it. They fixed all the problems I had and installed Avast on my machine. (I had AVG Free, may it rot in hell) Now, he didn’t tell me I’d have to register it, or if it had even been registered. I haven’t got any dialog boxes that have popped up, or any notification of any kind that I need to register it, but I know I myself have never registered it. So, my quesion is how do I know if it’s been registered, and will I ever have to pay for it?

Welcome to the forums, Becca Boo.

You can check this by right clicking the “a” ball in the Task tray and then clicking on “About avast …”. When the About avast box opens, scroll down to “Registration Key” and click the little plus box to the left. This will open a submenu below. The submenu should show the expiration dates for the program and for updates. Let us know what dates you find there.

Okay, I have a registration key and gives me big long number, then it says expiration: never, then it says updates expiration: Monday January 1 2007 @ midnight. Do I need to provide a license number or anything?

Hi Becca Boo,

The updates expiration date of Monday, January 1, 2007 means that your avast is registered until then. In late December of this year, the avast program will need to be re-registered (free) to continue getting updates to the program and virus definition files. You are “good to go” until then.

Welcome to the avast family. Please come back often and learn more.
