lees4,
Here is part of a post from my friend Technical -
You can check this: 1. Looking at the icon in the system tray 2. Adding a note in the Inbound/Outbound messages (both for Internet Mail or MS Outlook if you use it) 3. Right clicking a message, choose properties and see if there are two headers like these: X-Antivirus: avast! (VPS 0404-5, 08-04-2004), Inbound message X-Antivirus-Status: Clean
I have attached a picture of what Avast’s email checking icon looks like.
Happy Easter
Thanks and Happy Easter for you too bbfi.
Lees, did you solve your doubt? Need more help?
Wellcome to the forums
maybe you can also insert clean note into any incoming or outgoing messages…
this option is available from the mail provider of the resident shield…
Well …I went to my ISP (SBC) (my mail provider) and I think they provide a mail virus scanner that is already integrated in their browser. When I open a attached e-mail, it asked me if I want to scan it and I click yes, it scans it with Nortan Antivirus! So I am still confused somewhat. I had NAV before Avast! but uninstalled it. So I am not really sure what is going on. ???
Thanks for your help ;D
oh no…NAV!!! :o
NAV left lots of junk behind even when uninstalled…
you probably need some registry cleaner…
or maybe cojo can help
I have used my Ace utilities reg scan cleaner but it does not show any NAV…
Also, when I uninstalled NAV it did not show any files that were left over. I think I will contact SBC and ask them about NAV to see if it is integrated with the browser and if I can change it somehow.
Thanks!
now, be nice! ;D
NAV is a leech that is hard to pry out of any system…
cojo
You could turn on the “Show detailed info” in the mail scanner module. Then all mailen (in and out) will show as a line at the bottom of the desktop while beeing scanned. Nice feature. Mails with viruses will show in yellow as well - easy to see
Okay cojo, I will try that and see what happens. I also contacted SBC to see if NAV is already integrated in the mail browser.
Thanks again!
The mail scanner module…is that in the e-mail wizard? or is that located somewhere else?
what do you mean?? ???
The module is ‘Internet Mail provider’, you can reach it by left clicking the ‘a’ blue icon on the system tray. Choose Customize and go to the tab that Lars talked about.
The Mail Protection Wizard has nothing to do with ‘warnings’ about scanning. It only configures the email accounts to scan or not.
I found it. Thanks!
How do I get the little mail checking icon in the task bar?
In Windows:
Start / All Programs / Avast! Antivirus / Mail Protection Wizard.
In the Wizard:
Next / Next / Tick “Show taskbar icon when processing mail” / Next / Finish
I just did that and the icon still isn’t there. Maybe it is because my POP3 mail server is’t correct there and the correct one isn’t there in the drop down menu. How do I get the right mail server there?
L.D.
what do you mean that your pop server not there?..if you meant the mail wizard…then we have to clear things up a little…
from what i known…the default servers asked by the wizard is for communication with avast…for eg. sendin virus files to alwil etc…
just be sure that you ticked all accounts when setting up the mail wizard…
also check your avast.ini located at default folder
C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4\DATA
learn how to configure the avast.ini here…
http://forum.avast.com/index.php?board=2;action=display;threadid=1647;start=msg10233#msg10233
check that under the mailscanner section…
ShowTrayIcon is 1
Thanks for RE: However I am still lost on the e-mail. The drop down menu I was talking about, I can’t find it for the life of me now. It was a window that had a drop down for the SMPT and POP3 servers. One was listed and the drop down had one more to select from. It was an e-mail account I haven’t since I went to cable isp about 4 months ago. Any way I read in part the link you sent for setting up .ini. It is too much for my limited knowledge to do all that. I was using AVG and the updates got impossible to get so I am trying this. This is easy for me to scan anything except for the e-mail. I have 2 e-mail accounts, 1 web, Netscape and one from My ISP. Surely there is a place I can read step 1, 2, 3 how to set up and use the e-mail protection. I can’t even find the way to bring up the mail wizard so I can try again.
Thanks,
L.D.
