I read on the website that this version of Avast protects against spyware. Is it possible for me to perform a manual spyware scan?

no, its not possible to make a special spyware-scan only a scan for viruses and spyware - its the same scan and they are together in one database…*

You can download and install a anti spyware program and do a system scan and it also prevent you from spyware too.
Here is some of the anti spyware program you can downlaod and scan for spyware.
Is there any particular reason you feel it is necessary ?
avast has incorporated the anti-spyware and anti-rootkit scan within the regular on-demand scanning (Standard and Thorough sensitivity setting), so you don’t have to initiate multiple scans. Though it is possible to initiate a rootkit scan in the Pro version, by creating a new task and saying you want just the rootkit scan. Sorry I don’t have the pro version so can’t say exactly how to do that if you did want to do it.
I would say of the 4 options rassel gave, SAS (free) is a good back-up on-demand anti-spyware scanner.
Only reason I wanted to perform a spyware scan is because my old software (zonealarm) did a periodic spyware scan and always found spyware.
I was just wondering if the same applied to Avast.
Does it kill spyware on the fly as it comes in? And if so, does it warn me or does all this just happen in the background?
Or
Does it scan for spyware periodically like zonealarm does?

avast Pro has scheduled on-demand scanning.
Both avast Pro and Home scans for spyware on-access.
Yes, it will scan and warn you if something is detected.
In Pro version you can set automated actions (silently).
Manually, yes. Automatically, only in Pro.
Thanks for the responses so far.
In Pro, where are all the settings for spyware? Lets just say I want to scan for spyware manually. Where is the setting for this?
Also, where is the setting for the auto spyware scan?
-Frankie
There are no settings for auto or manual anti-spyware scanning, as I said in my post Reply #3, that is incorporated into regular scanning.
The antivirus and antispyware are blend together. There aren’t separate settings for them.
For the same reason, it’s already on with the antivirus on.
