These horrible avast pop ups advertising everything are a real pain in the a&&e!!! how do I stop them?? they obstruct the gmail email page and interfere when trying to do the simplest thing!! they are a damned MENACE!!!

Which version of avast are you using ???
You make it sound like you’re constantly bombarded with popups which isn’t really the case.
In the free version, if I see an average of one per day, it’s a lot.
In the paid versions, there’s a setting to turn the popups off.
I, too, would like to drop the messages. Or, at least make them smaller. Or turn on and off as necessary.
I have Avast Pro 2015. Like most users I am being hit often. The box in the lower right corner advises: “Avast Web Shield has blocked a harmful webpage or file.” Then it gives an object, infection, and process. Then a blue box with “More Details.” I have tried to turn off pop-ups and other items to no avail. Thank heavens I managed to turn off the sound. Right now the box shows 51 hits, the maximum I’ve seen. If I press the “X” in the corner of the box it goes away only to start again. I don’t need these notifications, I trust Avast is taking care of the bad guys. (I just hit he “X” and now the next pop-up is counting upward, currently stalled at 10.
How do I get rid of this pop-up??? Thanks.

“Avast Web Shield has blocked a harmful webpage or file.” is not what 1dickhunter is talking about. Your Avast is alerting you that it has blocked a harmfull site or file. My advice to look for help in the viruses and worms forum.

Thanks for the info. I’m working on removal but I want the notification pop-up to go away or be able to turn it on or off. If I’m working full screen it covers up the right lower corner and is not overridden by my screen. Very annoying to need to keep moving the page I’m working on to get to a far corner.

Just look in the settings.
You can disable it there if you want.
Your popup is due to an infection. Follow the instructions to remove the infection and the popup will go away.
