How do I stop...

How do I stop sooo many programs running at once in startup?
Correct me if I’m wrong but this is right? Press CTRL, ALT, DELETE and click on ‘Performance’ and look at ‘PF Usage’ (Mine says I’m using 395 MB and I have a total of 512) that’s normal or I should stop some programs?

Thanks!

This may be a newb question ( I am still learning the basics) but what is PF I know it stands for Page File but what does this do? Is it RAM?

Errr I don’t know :-\ and how can you be a newb? you’ve got 5 star!! ;D

Lol I guess you can’t call me a newb but just a not so experienced avast evangelist. ;D

No that is reasonable the pagefile stores data before dropping to disc. If you want to controll your start up programmes download and run either winpatrol or sysinternals autorun

I highly recommend using Autoruns.

autoruns is a great program. For links directly from sysinternals, use the following:

Hi henryjl,

Polonus use autoruns as well. If you like to see all your startup in a different manner, download this tool here: http://www.niksoft.at/download/startdreck.htm
If you get to be a more experienced user, and want to check on all the policies for processes etc. use ShareEnum from here:
http://www.sysinternals.com/Utilities/ShareEnum.html
Great program to see whether all your policies are watertight security-wise, even on process level.

You can also go to Start, Run and type msconfig. From there click the startup tab and uncheck the programs you do not want to load at startup and click apply
