How do I turn off big pop up?

Hello,

Every time I download a file from the web, the BIG avast main window pops up. How can I disable that?

I only need a pop up when Avast is warning about a virus or dangerous web page. NOT for normal or safe activities. Also, this is the whole window popping up, not some small warning.

I tried to tweak something in Settings>Appearance but it made no difference.

TIA.

can you attach a screenshot?

Hi pondus, it’s the main Avast window that pops up. Every time I just download a file.

For example, I just downloaded this file from Microsoft today:

http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=8483

And the attached is what showed up right away. It happens on every download and it’s very annoying. So how to stop this window from appearing every single time?

strange ???

try avast repair

controlpanel > ad/remove programs > avast > uninstall/change > repair option … wait a minute and reboot

any change?

Seeing your attached image on your 2nd post, it looks like you have the incorrect command in the downloader you are using, you are (I believe) referencing the avastUI.exe. it should be C:\Program Files\AVAST Software\Avast\ashQuick.exe

Strange, some one else has complained of what looks like the same problem.

I don’t know if it is the same as he never mentioned this was on downloads, but he didn’t really confirm what he was doing at the time.

That was the problem! I changed it to point to ashQuick.exe and now the problem is fixed. Please note that I have not changed the settings in my download manager (Internet Download Manager) for a few years. It has had avastUI.exe in its settings for the longest time. It was only recently that the big window kept popping up. So something changed in the recent versions of Avast to make it do that.

The big window had been popping up for at least a month now, maybe more. But I thought it was just a temporary thing and hadn’t associated it with downloads until just a few days ago. So this may have been the same problem with the other user who had similar behavior but he didn’t realize it was because of downloads.

Thanks to Dave and everyone else who suggested solutions.

You’re welcome.

I don’t know why this has suddenly become an issue as the ashQuick.exe has been the file for scanning downloads for some considerable time, many years.
