How do I unistall/reinstall Avast without having to repurchase it?

I turned on my PC today and got an error message from Avast saying that my system is unsecured. I clicked on the “FIX NOW” icon and the “Restart” icon however the program is not responding at all. I’ve tried everything to get it to work again. I read a few forums and did evertyhing that everyone suggested - tried upgrading/repairing components through the control panel amongst other things. I think the only thing left for me to try in to unistall the program and reinstall it. Problem is, I don’t want to have to pay for it again…can anyone tell me how to do this without having to repurchae? I’m running on Windows Vista. Thanks

Since you say “purchase” I assume you mean Pro or AIS, not free?
The easiest solution would be if you saved your license.
Did you?

As long as you still do have it, Avast! is re-activated the same way you activated the first time.
If not you will likely have to contact Avast! directly for a replacement,
try here for that>> http://www.avast.com/contacts

btw, your e-mail is showing, you can go above to Profile>>Account related settings and select
“hide from public”, unless you don’t mind having it out there.

I suggest an installation from scratch:

  1. Download the latest version of avast! Uninstall Utility and save it.
  2. Download the latest avast! version and save it.
  3. Uninstall avast from Control Panel (if possible). If, for any reason, you can’t run it, try booting in Safe Mode and doing it from there. Anyway, boot after that.
  4. Run the avast! Uninstall Utility saved on 1. If, for any reason, you can’t run it, try booting in Safe Mode and doing it from there. Anyway, boot after you’ve run it.
  5. Install avast! using the setup saved on 2. Boot.
  6. Register your free copy or add the license key for Pro.
  7. Check and post the results.
