How do I update Avast?

Hi there, I had a search but couldnt find the answer to my problem.
I have had avast rotecting my computer and the licence key expired.
I now have a new one, but i cant find where i need to enter it, can anyone help me please?
I have been surfing unprotectd for a while and its scaring me!

Right click the ‘a’ blue icon.
Choose ‘About’ dialog and click the ‘license key’ button.
Use copy & paste to enter the new key.

right click the avast ‘a’ icon, select about avast!, from the pop-up window, click the License key… button, paste the new license key into this entry point. Make sure you don’t copy any space after the key.

Actually - tell me if Im barking up the wrong tree here - but is there a way of getting Avast! to scan my computer for viruses that may have got on to my computer in the time it was unprotected?
Or does it deal only with viruses as then try and download?

You can do two things.

  1. right click the"a" icon, click on start avast antivirus. The simple user interface will open. From there you can scan your entire system.

  2. from the simple user interface, right click the skin (or click the menu button at the upper left), from the menu choose schedule boot time scan. When you reboot your computer avast will scan as your computer is starting up.

Sure there is on-demand scanning, besides on-access (resident) one.
