Well. One of my teachers was saying his laptop was broken. He gave me a picture of the BSOD his screen was showing. When he booted it up vista told him the file system (I believe) was damaged. It recommends fixing it. So he selected that. Oh wait… there’s a BSOD. UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_VOLUME 0xED (0x83D0C918, 0xC00000B5, 0x000000, 0x000000) and restarts back to the “Your file system is damaged screen”. Just to crash again. If he starts it normally still no luck. Safe mode doesn’t work either. So now what? I asked him if he had an anti-virus, he said no. I asked if he used any P2P applications. Just as I suspected. BitTorrent and LimeWire. Yup. Probably a virus. Anyone know a good bootable anti-virus to save them? Then I’m putting alot of free ones on it. Probably Avira since like everyone else I know, they don’t register it. No matter how many times I say it. I’m also burning a Ubuntu live cd to back up his precious photo’s and files. I’m hoping not to have to reformat, he doesn’t want that. He has alot of music and movies he spent days downloading. and since I’m using my 4gig USB drive to back them up. I’ll only back up his photos (In Ubuntu live cd of course) He has a Dell.
oh snap. Just found a recent article of a start-up problem and found a link to the avira antivir rescue system. I’ll try that. Oops. Sorry about that.
To any one that has something like this iolo has system mechanic and other programs that are able to fight these viruses
