How is your skype experience lately?

Skype users complain of more scam and spam issues lately.
Better block all outside your known Skype address list.

Can I have your recent experiences, as I think the compromittal of Skype is advancing…
(spam user abuse via compromised ads).

Skype hasn’t been all that bad for me. Then again, I rarely keep tabs with it, and only use it when doing something involving games or talking with extremely distance friends (off in Australia, from Canada :-()

Haven’t noticed any compromised ads yet, however, the bots attempting to add me is getting slightly annoying as that’s been the second case inside 3 months.

Skype hasn’t been slow, although I’ve noticed Skype will drop a fair amount of calls now-a-days. Usually after 15-20 minutes. (Whether it’s skype, or the friends internet, who knows.)

Hi Michael,

Thanks for your contibution.
I recently heard of a case where a bogus high ranking American general (scam) tried to make contact to a skype account.
This spam could be blocked and also all outside normal contacts had been blocked.
This incident was the reason for my investigative posting here.
Also revealing as MS has acquired Skype as you all may know.

Damian

I have Skype to block all ads especially those from Microsoft.
When someone asks for me to add them as a contact…I block them unless I know who they are.

I use Skype to communicate with friends that aren’t close in distance to me.
I also use Skype to do presentations remotely for those clubs that I can’t visit in person.
Skype on occasion has made it possible to be in 2 place at the same time.

+1 For you, Bob, I can see how Skype is a business tool. I use it to put together a newsletter to our seminarians.
Calling a bunch of parishes is easy and I can keep my hands free to make notes.

History; Skype sold to ebay sold Skype to Microsoft.

edit: typo

For me doing presentations isn’t a business, it’s a pleasure. and,
in my case, I have Avast to thank for this opportunity. (Sharing is caring.)

I don’t bother blocking ads. Since I rarely keeps tabs on it, I see no reason not to block it.

I did not know that Skype was bought buy M$ though, not a shocker in all honesty. Hopefully M$ doesn’t * Skype up though! I will be sincerely mad if they do!
