How long will Avast! 4.x be supported?
May by forewer!
Please…
Bump, anyone!?!?
It hasn’t been stated officially, but the personal thoughts of one Alwil member is 6 - 12 months after avast 5.0 is released, so the clock is ticking ;D
Why the 4.8 support question, win98 perhaps ?
what is win98… ;D
The OS that time forgot, or the OS that won’t die ;D
can i use avast 4.8 on my Comodore 64… ;D
No, I am dual booting Linux and Windows 7. In my opinion, Avast! 5 still has too many bugs…I am sure there are others on this forum that will disagree and they are entitled to their opinions. I am going to stick with Avast! 4 until version 5 causes fewer problems for me.
I have been using Avast! since the late 90’s and don’t want to switch to another company’s software, but will reluctantly do so if I have to. ![]()
So are you experiencing those problems or are you just watching the forums. If you haven’t tried it, give it a go you can always revert to 4.8. Before I installed 5.0 I did a hard disk image, so if it did experience any deal breaker I could revert in under 20 minutes.
Me I came on to one of the middle beta builds but reverted to 4.8 as my system is a live not test system. But I have been monitoring the beta sub-forum and yes there were still some minor issues, however once released I have updated and no issues at all.
There are going to be some who have issues on this major change, but overall I think it has been positive.
No, I AM experiencing problems and I am NOT just watching the forums. >:(
I asked the same question here.

I don’t think you’ll get an exact answer right now…
Sure, we’ll be trying to move as many users to version 5 as possible, and somehow discontinue v4 “as soon as possible” (because it brings additional effort for virus guys - who could focus on v5 detections instead) - but there are things we have to maintain. For example, the server / network editions were not updated to v5 yet, and it will take some (currently unknown) time to do so. Of course, it’s also not possible to expect the corporate users to upgrate to a new version within a month.
So, I’d say David’s guess will probably be correct…
Wouldn’t it be better reporting the problem and see if it can’t be resolved instead of waiting in the hope that someone else has the same problem and reports, etc.
