How many of you run this product? I have been running it for a few days and so far I like it. But has anyone tested it out? I cant find any “Safe” exploits to test it out against and I dont have a VM so im kind of at a loss there… Just wanted to know your guys opinions on this little piece of software.
And yes, I did see the discussion before about it, but the last post was over 20 days ago so I figured I’d let it go and start a new topic 8)
I know of only a few.
I have used ES( Zb8.1) since first introduced on my XP and now on Windows8 Pro and frankly like it alot.
Has stopped a couple of exploits.
Not sure exactly how many folks here on the Avast Forum run it along side of Avast but would be very interested in knowing.
Maybe some of the users could check in and let it be known
Thanks, the reason why I’m wondering is because my only Real-Time protection is Avast (all shields and sandbox on) as well as Exploitshield and Online armor (HIPS off) my thought process is that avast! covers most (web to a extent/system) and exploitshield will catch what avast! misses. And I’m really avoiding EMET, not sure why but im really wary of it.
EDIT* plus I have to balance protection with performance, this PC only has 2gb of RAM without any security products it runs at about 600mb, with all my realtime products (only 3) it sits at about 850mb idle, with chrome open with only 1 tab it runs at about 1.30gb used total. See what I"m saying?
I am still testing it. During all that time, several months now (two beta versions long), it blocked three exploit attempts plus it quarantined “swt-win32-3740.dll” during an auto-load java exploit (I caused that myself unfortunately, but that aside)
That exploit was also stopped in it’s tracks that way.
So I can testify to the fact that this proggie is no snake oil and really promising additional protection.
For me enough of it to keep it on. Does not way heavy on the old cycles also. Two or three beta crashes after which it ran with one click to bring it back on,
but it always kept running and protecting in the background (which I viewed and established via taskmanager).
Now I am grateful to our forum friend- schmidthouse - for letting me stumble upon that program via one of his posts about it…
I can understand how you would want to be ‘resource practical’ with your OS. Exploit Shield runs at 0.6mb RAM consistantly on my systems, and imo that is cheap resource use for the “protection benefit”.
Agreed, the program is young and still in Beta Stage, however it has worked flawlessly ( and effectively) on both my OS’s so far; so while I would recommend this little tool, I emphasize “it is still in beta”.
