When I installed tonight in Vista, I accepted the checked items, which included a plugin for Outlook–I presume to scan emails.
Since I use Outlook XP (2002) only for the calendar function (no email), I’d like to remove the plugin (it flashes a splash screen at every Outlook start and of course is consuming some resources. So, how do I remove the plugin? I’ve looked through all the menus in Outlook and don’t see a place to do it.
This is not a server-based Outlook, just operating on a laptop.
I’m not sure if terminating the avast Outlook/Exchange provider will be sufficient - but it well may.
I do not have Outlook 2002 available to me but from the options in my Outlook 2003 I suggest you look in the advanced options for a “plug-in manager” or something close to it. There you should be able to un-check the acceptance of the avast plug-in.
As I said, I have looked all through the Outlook menus and see nothing there about plugins or a manager. If it is there, I am missing it somehow.
WAIT…found it under Tools>Options>Other (tab)>General>Advanced>Add-in Manager. Have unchecked avast 4. Tested. Don’t get the splash screen. Seems this would not remove it, but does keep it from starting. Thanks for the lead.
It is not a question of removing it but - as you have established - Outlook will not activate the avast plugin-in with your choice. That means that the avast Outlook/Exchange provider is consuming no resources on your system.
