How scan hard drive without AVAST halting each time it finds an issue?

I’m a new user to AVAST. I have version 4.8. How can I set AVAST to run a scan of the hard drive without AVAST halting each time it finds a questionable item? I would prefer to run it over night and deal with all the issues at one time next morning.

I wake up to find it only finished a small percentage of the scan and then stopped, awaiting some action from me. Thanks, Robt

No, you can’t. Only in Professional version (see picture here: http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=13315.msg112285#msg112285).

In Home version you can check the option “Don’t show this window again” as soon as the first virus warning appears, and click on “No action” button. This way, nothing will be done and you will be presented the results at the end (and you can perform actions from there).

Over time this will become less of an issue, as the resident, on-access scanners are designed to intercept infection before it gets into your system. If it doesn’t and you are still getting multiple detections in the on-demand scan you should review your security practice.

  • There was one suggestion to place something like the eicar test virus at the start of the first drive to be scanned in a file like ~a-eicar.com that should soon be detected and you can do the option “Don’t show this window again” when the first virus warning appears, select the “No action” button. So you should have a list of files waiting your action.

Checking the box “do not show again” does not hold. The next time it finds a virus it still tops. Also, I’m a little confused because on my program the “Take no Action” button and “Do not show again” button are not on the same screen.

Yes. It works only for that session. Only with Pro version you can configure it.

“Take no Action” button just continue the scanning, the malware (virus) is not executed.
“Do not show again” button will continue the scanning with the option you’ve chose before (deleting, send to Chest, no Action, etc.).
