how to bypass bogus malware detection

xup.in seems to be a popular site for hosting misc stuff. I have been accessing jpg images with URLs of this form
http://www0.xup.in/exec/ximg.php?fid=digits
for a long time. Suddenly today, Avast says it’s malware and blocks the site. A web search showed that other blocking software would occasionally and seemingly randomly block similar locations on the site.
Can a jpg really contain malware?
Assuming not, can I somehow get to the images anyway, short of completely disabling Avast?

Yes.

upload suspicious file(s) to https://new.virustotal.com/ and test with 40+ malware scanners
when you have the result, copy the url in the address bar and post it here for us to see

My problem is that I can’t get to the files. Avast anti-virus won’t let the browser go there. It seems to be a generic block, since until yesterday I could get to any of hundreds of URLs on the site, and now I can’t get to any of them.

Getting back to my original question, do I have to disable Avast completely to reach the site, or can I tell Avast that I want to take the risk anyway?

This site, -http://www0.xup.in/, was involved in leaking the Aldi-bot code, a German malware toolkit (image only). So I do not know what the WOT status of this site is now, has/had malware and undesirable content. This is a redirected site, see: http://siteinspector.comodo.com/public/tasks/97774
It was put in the hpHosts blacklist 3918 -www.xup.in 212.117.163.101 -www.xup.in back in 07/03/2011 08:14:01 It is not listed in any blacklists now .Search for -xup.in,

I would not take down avast, I would report the issue and wait for a decision,
most avast detections are genuine and not for bogus issues. The malware could have been cleansed, so report here: http://www.avast.com/en-eu/contact-form.php?loadStyles
