Right click on the Setup folder. Properties. Uncheck the ‘read only’ option.
This is a critical folder and removal of much of it will result in problems.
Avast continually checks the validity of of certain files, the .vpx files are used for this validation function and are required. As are the .dll and .exe files. I do periodically prune this folder but only certain files/folders you will see many folders with unique names most will be empty.
Avast checks for emergency updates and uses a file within these unique names. Other than these I generally don’t remove anything else. The emupdate folder can contain one or two if these uniquely named .exe files actually used to carry out the check and any update required.
That folder and other avast program folders are protected by the avast self-defence module, to make any changes you would have to disable the avast self-defence module. This would be at your own risk!
Pretty good change that avast gives a error when you delete everything in that folder.
One of the errors will likely be “language path not found”.
