How to deal with a Trojan ??

i have Win32:Trojan-gen on my computer.
about 7 files infected =

C:\systerm volume information_restore

Was i right to put into chest ???

If there is any suspicion on a restore point I would say it should go into the chest, where it can do no harm. If left in the system volume information folder and you used system restore in the future you could be restoring an infected file.

Remember the reason it is in the system volume information folder is at one point you deleted or moved it from a system folder, etc. and this is system restore making a copy of it. At worst, if it were clean then you simply wouldn’t be able to use that restore point.

There is no rush to delete anything from the chest, a protected area where it can do no harm. Anything that you send to the chest you should leave there for a few weeks. If after that time you have suffered no adverse effects from moving these to the chest, scan them again (inside the chest) and if they are still detected as viruses, delete them.

Shortly, yes.
I suggest you run avast at boot time to check if your system is clean. Also, maybe, disabling/enabling the system restore to delete the old infected restore points.

I have turned restore off - restarted computer then turned it back on again.

done a full scan and found nothing… but do i need to do a scan @ boot time too ?

How do i run scan @ boot time please.

You shouldn’t need to be here is how:
If you have XP, vista32bit or Win2k, you could enable a boot time scan. Right click the avast icon, select Start avast! Antivirus, a memory scan will take place followed by the opening of the Simple User Interface, Menu, ‘Schedule boot-time scan…’ Or see http://www.digitalred.com/avast-boot-time.php.
