This an ongoing problem, and I’ve read the other threads pertaining to it. I have just upgraded to the last version of Avast Free, 12.1.2272, which is supposed to solve the problem :
At some point, Avast put an anti-spam toolbar in all my Outlook 2003 messages. This can’t be disabled from within Outlook, since it does not show as an add-in. There was no opt-in during Avast install. There have been registry workarounds floating around the Web, but they don’t seem to work anymore.
Of course, I don’t want to deactivate the online mail protection, since that’s the whole point of having an anti-virus. I simply resent a third-party software adding unwanted toolbars in other programs, and I don’t get any spam anyway.
When I completely uninstall Avast and I repair Outlook, the toolbar goes away.
I did perform a custom installation. However, I did not get the screen than you show me. Mine had less options. See attachment.
I guess the “Anti-spam” option on the screen that you show is the one to un-check. Notice my install screen is in French, which I don’t want. I want the English screen. I’m in France, and I got the French one despite trying otherwise. I guess this might be the previous version install screen. However, I had taken care to uninstall the previous version with the Avast uninstall tool. This is strange.
I hope the attachments show when I post this. they don’t show in preview mode, it’s the first time I use this forum. Sorry if it does not work.
