How to get Avast to not run on startup?

Avast 2014.9.0.2006 Win 7

I want to disable Avast to see if it’s causing an issue with another program.

I went to msconfig > startup and unchecked Avast. I restarted the machine and Avast started anyway.

How to make it not start?

thank you!

Why not prevent the application from loading and starting it after EVERYTHING has loaded at boot-time?
Or right click the avast icon near the clock and disable avast for 10 minutes?
What is the other application?
What is the problem? Error message?

Thanks, but that won't work - the issue is that my USB telephone recording software is supposed to start up with Windows but it doesn't and I'm trying to find out if it's Avast causing it not to start.

I tried that 3 times (for 60 minutes) and every time I rebooted, Avast would start.

Try this…

Avast>Settings>Troubleshooting>[check]Load Avast services after loading other system processes.

I wouldn’t advise booting up your PC without an antivirus.

Avast is NOT an on-demand AV => no such setting. You can delay the load as hinted by others above though.

Have you already completely removed the phone software, rebooted and installed it from scratch?

I would strongly suggest you try StartupDelayer to control the order/time of programs loading on Windows. http://www.r2.com.au/page/products/show/startup-delayer/
Although, avast! is not an on demand antivirus.
