How to get rid of a Win32:Malware-gen

So I must’ve downloaded a bad file by accident and the avast notification thing pops up in the bottom right hand side of my computer saying “Malware detected” and it instantly moved it to the chest. So i looked into my chest and apparently it’s a Win32;Malware-gen. I’m not the best with computers but i know a little so please no heavy technical terms, but I would like to know if there is a safe way to remove it from the virus vault. Also, will it hurt anything by being in the virus vault for long? I know that there is an option to delete from the virus vault, but does that get rid of it for good? Please, I need help, I have a rather expensive gaming rig and i do not want to see it ruined from this. thank you in advance

Hi greateyedea,

If the sample has been moved to virus chest you should let it there there are NOT any risks.

I’m sorry, I don’t understand because it seems you have made a typo lol. But did you mean to say that I should let it stay in the chest? Is there no way to just get rid of it?

Why do you want to delete it ?

From the avast! support :

“The avast! Virus Chest is a safe and completely isolated place, or a ‘quarantine’ area in other words, for storing potentially harmful files away from the rest of the operating system. Files inside the Virus Chest are not accessible for any outside process, software application or virus and also cannot be run there.”

Yeah, I just would rather have it totally gone than on my computer at all. Thank you for the information though. I’m glad to know it’s at least totally isolated.

read and learn…

Clean, Quarantine, or Delete?

if you delete you have no options left, so normally leave files in chest for a couple of weeks to see if all is OK befor you delete
in your case it was a file downloaded from the net, so not a system file that your comp will miss…so you may delete it anytime you want
