My Avast Home Edition 4.7 just discovered I’ve got the following file and malware :
avtap.dll Win32:Rootkit-gen Rtk
I have the latest Avast virus def file. I use Windows XP Pro with Service Pack 2 installed. Of course, I can’t manually delete this file as it says that I can’t access it. :
After I did some research, according to another site, I could also have the jvmvqwao.sys file infected by that rootkit thing under windows\system\drivers, although Avast doesn’t detect anything wrong.
My Avast can’t do anything (move, delete, etc.) with the avtap.dll file.
Can you schedule a boot-time scanning?
Start avast! > Right click the skin > Schedule a boot-time scanning.
Select for scanning archives.
Boot.
If infected files are found, it’s safer to send them to Chest instead of deleting them.
This way you can further analysis them.
Vendor, Product and Version Information
Files with the name AVTAP.DLL have been seen to have the following Vendor, Product and Version Information in the file header:
Alcohol Soft Development Team; Alcohol 120%; 3.0.0.0
; ; 1.0.0.0
I have the same virus detected only once by avast as coming from a file called 08dgu.com located on an USB flash memory key. On the fist scan made by avast an abnormal file as been detected on C:\ but unfortunatly I idi not note the name. From this date, this virus or any anbnormal file are not anymore detected either using avast or other antivirus. I do not found the avtap.dll win32… file on my computer.
My ladtop seems to run normally except two things:
I cannot access directly to C: from the screnn of “My computer”, a new screen appears asking me which sofware sahhl be used to open this file !?!?
Avast is not anymore updated from the date this virus come in (Oct 13 2008), a red advise pop up telling that “an error occured while trying to update avast…”
For infomation, I am using Windows XP home edition SP3.
So did you solve your problem and if OK what to do
Pierre, can you try to repair your installation?
Go to Control Panel > Add/Remove programs > avast! antivirus > Remove. Then choose Repair function in the popup window (Repair).
Also, it will be good if you schedule a boot time scanning with avast
I went to Remove programm menu but when I click on avast modify/remove area nothing is appening!
I tried the same on another programm and the screnn asking if I do want to remove this soft appears normally. As a matter of fact I cannot remove avast using that way!
