How to install ver. 8 avast ?

How do I remove the newest version of avast and install version 8 ?
Tried to do this yesterday and it kept going back to the newest version, even though I used Revo to uninstall it followed by the avast removal tool.
I can find any older copy of avast on File Hippo.

Tried to get answers to problems with the newest version but nothing works.

Did you use FileHippo Mirror link ?

Avast! Free Antivirus 8.0.1497

http://www.filehippo.com/download_avast_antivirus/download/0c203d8e8244458c5da81998eb76f523/

Other link is redirecting to the latest version.

And make sure when you do get version 8 back onto your computer that you uncheck automatic program updates.

abruptum, thank’s for the link, not positive it was the same one I used.

ram1220, I did uncheck auto updates the first thing. Then tried to insert my license for AIS and it snapped into updating mode. I thought it was going to stay with version 8, but when it restarted, it was the newest version again. Good news is so far everything works as it should, no problems as before.

Info. for anyone else reading this; I used the avast removal utility in safe mode, it does a restart when done. Then I did a “forced uninstall” with Revo Pro. I think by doing this made for a really clean install of the newest version.

I had originally updated thru the GUI and did not obtain a complete update. This time I did.

hi,

strange , you’re already the 4 th or 5 th guy to noticed it => forced update on 8.0.1497 to 2014 even when settings are to do not.

If really wanted by avast , I don’t think you will have answer. :-\

Hi chris05,

Yes, I had it turned off so I would not have a version update but it did not work.

You’re right about avast not giving answers and I made it clear how I felt about it here in post #173 : http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=142936.165

The thing which really bugs me is the avast team members have not had a response to my post above !

hello,

just some history about kind of issue:

Neither do I. I do not want Avast 9. Yet, although the above settings are selected, the program will update itself. I tried to uninstall and then reinstall it properly checking the right boxes for the updates, but does not change anything. After a week, the program updates without I allowed. Someone would have an idea to prevent this?

All previous versions of Avast can be found on Filehorse.com

The path to happiness for uninstalling a version before doing a clean install seems to be to use the Uninstall tool in Safe Mode.

Like many others, I have tried to do this also.

The problem is, there is no way to keep the older versions from updating to the newest one, even if you unchecked auto program update.

  1. Use the avast uninstall utility in and delete the hidden Avast folder in the hidden Program Data Folder.
  2. Then download your version (free/pro/etc) from here:
    http://forum.avadas.de/threads/5860-Wo-ist-der-Link-zur-letzten-8er-avast!-Version?p=49858&viewfull=1#post49858
  3. Make sure you don’t get updated higher or accidentally click on the GUI to automatically resolve problems after you’ve turned of file shields, because it updates you to a version over 8.01500 which are automatically updated to 2014 for Windows 8/8.1 users.

(Though I have to admit that I didn’t test it through, because I’ve updated it by mistake to 8.0150X and have already completely uninstalled it before it could update itself.)
