How to keep Avast from scanning certain folders?

Is there anyway to make Avast Pro not to scan folders or whole drives that I select?

Example I have a folder with lot of software installers and evberytime I open the folder I see the Avast system tray icon moving

which means its scanning.

I am using Vista 32Bit

Another example!

I have seen when opening and moving files to a hard drive on my network Avast slows it down bigtime. And also is cauising the icons on the files to apear very very slow! Anyone else see this happen?

Again this is on Vista.

You need to use the Exclusion lists:

For the Standard Shield provider (on-access scanning):
Left click the ‘a’ blue icon, click on the provider icon at left and then Customize.
Go to Advanced tab and click on Add button…

For the other providers (on-demand scanning such as the screen-saver or the Simple or Enhanced User Interface):
Right click the ‘a’ blue icon, click Program Settings.
Go to Exclusions tab and click on Add button…

You can use wildcards like * and ?.
But be careful, you should ‘exclude’ that many files that let your system in danger, specially with Standard Shield.

And Why does this happen?

Because you don’t have Vista SP1 yet. MS will improve a lot the file transfer and moving. These operations are very slow on Vista comparing to XP.

I still don’t understand what I am doing.

I want to add a few of my usb hard drives to the exclusions list. It does not seem to be working :frowning:

Are you sure? It’s not safe…
Something like X:* will do it.

X:* worked.

But why would it not be safe?

I scan everything before putting it on those usb drives.

I must say now that I added my network drives to the exclusions list the files open a lot faster now!

I still would just like to know why you think its not safe. If you could explain that would be great

Also big thanks for your help.

This could be not enough. Just something missed by the antivirus and you’ll infect your computer. Also, some malicious files could pass as clean and, when you connect the Internet, download the infected files. Also, you could use the USB drive in an infected computer, get it infected without knowing and then putting it into your computer and infect yourself.

Of course, the files aren’t being scanned… remember, you’ll working with lowered protection level.
